We hire about one person a year and we are not always hiring. When we are, it is almost never somebody who has only ever been a consultant.
Who tends to work here
People who have run something — a shop floor, a branch, a shift, a small business of their own
People who are comfortable being the only person in the room asking the obvious question
People who write clearly, because most of what we sell arrives as writing
People who can spend two days on a factory floor without needing to be the cleverest person there
What we offer
A published salary band before the first conversation, not after the third
Client work from the first month, with a partner in the room
No billable-hours target, because a target on hours is a target on the wrong thing
Four weeks off, and the firm shuts for the week between Christmas and the New Year
Why no billable-hours target
Because a target on hours is a target on the wrong thing, and every consultancy that has one
knows it. An adviser measured on days sold has a quiet reason to find a second engagement in
every first one, and a quiet reason not to say that a piece of work should stop. We would rather
not have that pressure sitting under every conversation, and the cost of not having it is that
we grow slowly.
Why almost never a career consultant
Because the useful thing in a room with an owner is usually not a framework. It is having once
been the person who had to make the roster work with two people off, or who had to tell somebody
their job was changing, or who took the call about the delivery that did not arrive. That is
not something anybody can be taught in a training week, and it is the difference between advice
that lands and advice that is technically correct.
How to apply
There is no application form and no tracking system. An e-mail with something you have written in it is worth more than a résumé, and it will be answered by a person.
Send it to consulting@bestdealwebdesign.com. Something you have written —
anything, about anything — is worth more than a résumé, because most of what this firm sells
arrives as writing and it is the one skill that cannot be established in an interview.
This is a demonstration website. This is a demonstration website. Woodside Management Partners is not a real firm, no enquiry sent from this site reaches anybody, and the telephone number is a placeholder. It was built to show what a small professional firm gets for a fixed price.
$2,200 a partner day · ninety minutes free · about one in four we talk out of it
Start with the assessment, or just telephone
The assessment takes about four minutes and gives you a written summary of what your answers suggest and which engagement addresses each thing. It is indicative and not professional advice, and it is a better opening than a blank contact form. If you would rather skip it, the telephone works and the first meeting is ninety minutes and free.
